Stock SU carb install

The set of Weber carbs that came with the car were worthless as far as I was concerned when I bought the car. Like an idiot, I blew a small chunk of money on a set of 73 carbs and installed them when I got the car. Later, I discovered that the Webers probably needed a simple adjustment and cleaning, and on top of that the 73 setup were inferior, performance-wise, to anything else on the market.

So, I hunted for a good set of stock dome-topped SU carbs from an earlier L24 engine and installed them along with a pair of K&N filters. The install was fairly straightforward and it also came with a new balance tube between the manifolds. After doing a little research, I also did some research and determined that some of the ports could be blocked off and/or removed to simplify the setup because the emissions equipment wouldn't be necessary in my case.

I also eliminated the coolant pipes that run to the carbs as you can see in some of the pictures below. I think that this eliminates some complexity and many people feel it is unnecessary. I'm hoping that I will have cool enough air running by the carbs that coolant won't be necessary.
