What a nightmare
Step 1: Buy perfectly good car.
Step 2: Pull out old motor in anticipation of engine you ordered from Canada.
Step 3: Proceed to get screwed on that engine b/c it never even shows up and the guy that sold it to you has apparently moved to another continent.
Step 3.5: Buy another engine from a reputable dealer, only to find out it's from the wrong car. Contemplate setting car on fire.
Step 3.8: Rent a minivan and drive 10 hours to Chicago to pick up a 3rd engine in person, get back just in time to offload the engine, put the seats back in and return the van within the 24 hours with an extra 1000 miles on the odometer. Install and rejoice when the car can finally move under its own power again.
Step 4: Rid yourself of it as quickly as possible at a massive loss. Drink heavily.

Yeah, that pretty much sums up the history of my first true project car. I bought this car solely with the intentions of driving it for a while and then swapping in a 1JZ-GTE. From there, the plan kinda fell apart. I learned a lot from this car, whether it be the dangers of naivety and internet scams, or the solid general principles of working with cars. I eventually got the engine installed and it really brought the car to life, but by that time I was so desperate to get away from the money pit that I refused to spend any more on it to get it buttoned up. I had also come to realize that it was so heavy and unweildy that it was take a lot of time to develop it into a competent track car, and I didn't want anything to do with it any more.
It was a tremendous growth experience for me and left a lasting impression on how I attack projects, but most importantly the bitter taste didn't stay in my mouth for long.
